Last year, Jay’s housemates and I discovered the perfect summer respite in Russian River, a lazy waterway that winds itself through the sunniest bits of Marin County (San Francisco’s neighbor to the North). It’d be the ideal West Coast backdrop for a Huckleberry Finn novel: placid water, hidden trails, greenery so very green.
We went to our usual watering hole, Sunset River Beach Park, a stretch of water perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, innertubing, or just plain relaxing. Our neighbors, a group of locals, were impossibly friendly and let us use their equipment throughout the day. Add some beers and snacks into the mix, and we had us one truly excellent summer day.
